LeBron James reacts to Christian McCaffrey’s second touchdown against the Vikings

2 min read

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers will open the 2023-24 NBA season on Tuesday against the Denver Nuggets at Mile High City. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since the defending champions swept the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals.

The Lakers can’t wait to see the four-time MVP take on a team that has haunted them since the Divisional Round. James should be eager to leave after the playoffs.

While preparing for the game, James has been following the NFL. He’s been particularly impressed with San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey, who is questionable after injuring his oblique vision against the Cleveland Browns last week.

McCaffrey opened the scoring for San Francisco with a three-yard rush in the second quarter. LeBron James posted the tweet after receiving a pass from quarterback Brock Purdy and completing a 35-yard touchdown run. “CMC” has now scored at least a touchdown in 16 consecutive games, the second-most in NFL history.

Without the injured Deebo Samuel, the San Francisco 49ers needed everything from Christian McCaffrey. Entering the fourth quarter, they trailed the Minnesota Vikings 22-14.

LeBron James notices McCaffrey’s durability

LeBron James has yet to play 60 games in his last three seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. His most appearances in a single season came in 2019-20 when he played 67 games.

Last season, James played 55 games and was nearly lost for the season with a foot injury. He reportedly played through the pain in the playoffs.

If the Los Angeles Lakers want to be an elite contender for the title, they need James to stay healthy. General manager Rob Pelinka has done an excellent job of reorganizing the roster. That said, they aren’t likely to get anywhere if the NBA’s all-time scoring leader can’t stay 100 percent healthy.

James could take some cues from McCaffrey. Despite a brutal stint at the top running back position, the two-time pro hasn’t missed a game in over a year.

Since being acquired by the team from the Carolina Panthers in October 2020, McCaffrey has played every game for the 49ers. Considering his workload, McCaffrey’s durability is staggering.

LeBron James spends millions of dollars to take care of his body. A little inspiration from running backs might do him some good as well.
